You Will Do Great Things

As a teenager I was a big fan of Amerie’s music. So when I found out she wrote a children’s book I knew I wanted to check it out. You Will Do Great Things is a beautifully written story about the hopes, dreams and possibilities a parent sees in their child. Amerie wrote this story with her son River in mind and I believe she did an amazing job capturing the unconditional love parents have for their children and their possibilities of their future.

I resonated with the message in the story so much that it brought tears to my eyes while I watched my read aloud video with my sons. Looking at my sons as they were captivated by the beautiful illustrations and taken on a journey with a little boy (that looks like them) while being told “he will do great things” was not only encouraging to watch, but empowering. I tell my sons all the time that they have purpose and they are capable of anything if they keep God first.

Before I record in front of the camera, I always pray before recording. I ask God to guide me with the message He wants me to share about each book I read. As I spoke with God about what to share about, You Will Do Great Things, He brought to my attention to the message in the book. He revealed to me that this is also how He feels about each one of His children.

God has placed purpose in each one of His children and He knows they will do great things here on earth and for His Kingdom.

I know this is a children’s book, but I hope when adults read this story to children that they are also reminded that they are capable of doing great things and their Father in heaven (no matter the age) is looking down on them with unconditional love knowing that anything is possible when you keep God first.
